Negombo Lagoon
A natural lagoon that is a haven for flora and fauna, the Negombo Lagoon is considered to be one of the more picturesque lagoons in the west of Sri Lanka due to its vast mangrove community and wetland environment.
The lagoon is not only an important reserve for animals, but is also a major lifeline for the fishing industry. Lagoon crab, shrimp and a wide variety of fish species are caught here and sold by the local fishing community. Most of the lip-smacking seafood found in the city comes from here.
Cruising along the lagoon through the lush wilderness of the Muthurajawela Wetlands allow you to witness several endemic species of avifauna that nest up in the treetops. Other reptiles, and amphibians can also be seen dduring cruise along the lagoon.
